Iceland is in the midst of of a
financial crisis after its economic bubble burst. The bubble was driven by
neoliberal,
free-market philosophy and now the party is over. Johannes Por Skulason is heading a group opposed to the terms of repayment (austerity) being imposed on Iceland. Here is
the basis of his opposition:
"I can be very frank about it: What we want to do is abolish this neo-liberal greed philosophy that was driving things in the bubble years," he says. "What we want to re-establish in Iceland is a strong Nordic welfare society with equal justice and equality."
Good luck to you, Mr. Skulason!
